Head constable Rajeshwar Singh may be ruing the day when he decided to pose for a few mobile snapshots while sitting in the lap of his female collegue.
These pictures, which then went viral on Facebook and Whatsapp led to his fall, aka suspension. The Jammu & Kashmir cop was posted as a Munshi at the Budhal Police Station in J&K's Rajouri area and the female colleague in question was posted as a SPO in the same station.
Senior superintendent of police Rajeshwar Singh said the matter is being investigated and other people from the department involved in uploading the pictures were under the scanner as well.
"We have suspended head constable Zakir Hussain posted at Budhal police station and attached him to the district police lines for this shameful act."
He added the photograph was clicked in August but uploaded on social media on Thursday. "Action against those who clicked the pictures and uploaded them will also be taken," said Singh.
"During preliminary inquiry, it came to fore that police personnel, who uploaded the picture, has now been transferred to Doda district."
Whatever be the case, the woman in the image doesn't appear to be harassed or shy of being photographed. In fact, in one of the images she is actually hugging Mr Hussain.
The issue is whether it was just an office joke, which went astray after social media intervened.
Also, in a country were gender bias is high and the sword of sexual harassment suites hangs lows on everyone, was it appropriate to click this image and then upload it online?
