French Pound The ISIS Within 2 Days Of Paris Attacks. Here's How India Has Responded After Terror Attacks!
France suffered one of the most heinous terrorist attacks the nation saw since the end of the Second World War. With 153 dead, the global outrage and the outpouring of support for the country is unprecedented.
France, though suffering, launched a counter-offensive within days. A massive air assault in Raqqa, the capital of Islamic State, was launched by France destroying 2 jihadi sites in the region. More can be expected in the coming days.
India, on the other hand, has suffered more than 20 terrorist attacks within the last five years, killing and injuring innocents numbering in the hundreds. Like France, we too know where these terrorist attacks originate from. But what have we done? Suffered in silence. That’s what. Every time there’s a blast or gunmen killing our citizens, all we do is give out ‘strongly worded statements’ and then sit down and do nothing about it. Here’s a recap of what we has happened in the past 5 years.
2010 Pune Blasts
On 13 Feb, a blast ripped through the German bakery near Koregaon Park area of Pune killing 17 people. Terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen was accused of the attacks. Some IM members were arrested in 2011 from Delhi and it was only in 2013 that a Pune court awarded death sentence to one IM operative.
2010 Varanasi Bombings
A blast in the holy city of Varanasi on December 7, 2010, killed 2 people and injured 37. Pakistan-based brothers Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal, heading Indian Mujahideen were accused of the blasts. A day later three people were arrested from the Indo-Nepal border.
2011 Delhi High Court Bombing
A briefcase bomb explosion, planted near Gate No 5 of Delhi High Court, on 7 September killed 17 people and injured 76. Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI) claimed responsibility of the attack, demanding 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru be released from Jail. A day later IM too claimed responsibility. In 2012, two HuJI terrorists were killed by the army, one of them an accused in the blast. In September same year, a court in Delhi found sufficient evidence against Kashmir based Wasim Akram Malik who was arrested from near the Indo-Bangladesh border.
2012 Pune blasts
Four low-intensity blasts took place in Pune killing 1. IM is suspected to be behind the blasts and 8 accused were arrested.
2013 Hyderabad blasts
17 people were left dead when two blasts rocked Hyderabad, on the evening of 21 February. IM is believed to be behind the blasts.
2013 Bodh Gaya bombings
No less than 10 blasts took place in the Mahabodhi Temple complex injuring 5. In November that year, the NIA announced that IM was responsible for the blasts.
2013 Patna Blasts
At an election rally in Patna, eight blasts took place, killing 6 and injuring 85 others. By April 2014, eight suspects had been arrested.
2015 Gurdaspur attack
3 Pakistani insurgents, dressed in military uniform attacked the Dina Nagar police station in Gurdaspur. 3 civilians and 4 policemen died in the attack. All three terrorists were also killed in the resulting operation.
As you can see, the regularity of these attacks is alarming. And unlike France we don’t seem to have done anything to send out a warning signal to the culprits. Otherwise, these attacks would have stopped a long time back, or at least reduced in their frequency. Because the enemy’s policy of bleeding India through a thousand cuts looks like it’s working.
